Sanitation Supervisor

JOB DESCRIPTION: 

The Sanitation Supervisor is responsible for ensuring that the sanitation department runs smoothly and efficiently. They will oversee the sanitation workers and make sure that they are performing their duties correctly. The supervisor will also keep track of the supplies and equipment used by the department and make sure that everything is in good working order. They will report any problems or concerns to the manager of the facility.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develops and implement sanitation policies and procedures
  • Interviews, trains, plans, assigns, directs work, provides performance appraisals, rewards, discipline, and addresses complaints and resolve employee problems
  • Conducts regular inspections of the facility and equipment to ensure cleanliness
  • Ensures that all areas of the facility are properly cleaned and disinfected
  • Investigates and resolves complaints about sanitation problems
  • Maintains records of cleaning schedules, chemicals used, and other pertinent information
  • Compiles required reports regarding regular inspections, sanitation violations, and steps taken to resolve deficiencies
  • Confers with management and production personnel on sanitation problems, and recommends changes in equipment, plant layout, lighting, ventilation, or work practices to improve sanitation standards and effectiveness of process
  • Works closely with Quality Assurance and Production management to resolve any sanitation concerns
  • Maintains a Master Sanitation Schedule to address non-routine cleaning duties
  • Maintains and keeps updated all chemical cleaning procedures
  • Inspects premises for unsanitary practices and conditions
  • Routes reports to designated plant management
  • Works closely with chemical consultant in reviewing chemical usage and operating procedures as well as keeping abreast of new technology
  • Directs cleaning of equipment and work areas, including periodic checks of CIP equipment that does not get broken down daily, to check for effectiveness of cleaning
  • Cleans and inspects all process equipment for conformity to federal and state sanitation laws and plant standards in an efficient manner
  • Sets and Achieve Goals – Successfully coaches, trains, and follows up with people to ensure production goals are met

TEAMWORK REQUIREMENT:

  • Correlate with maintenance to maintain all standards of equipment condition

Education and/or on-the-job experience preferred

  • High school diploma or equivalent, 3-5 years of related experience with process equipment sanitation in a supervisor role
  • Exposure to all requirement of Microbial and chemical and workforce safety

Industry-specific knowledge, skills & abilities preferred

  • Food Industry
  • Understanding of food processing
  • Manual dexterity, good vision and the ability to solve complex problems

Specialty / Job-Related knowledge, skills & abilities preferred

Directly supervises a sanitation team

Leadership experience preferred

Technical Skills

Strong computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
